The Quest - London Youth Opera

The Quest

LYO is delighted to bring you the World Premier of THE QUEST with stirring music by Nathan Williamson and witty lyrics by Megg Nicol - an impassioned battle between idealistic young scientists and corrupt politicians this story takes inspiration from the works of WH Auden and Christopher Isherwood.

Stan and Gretchen, the chosen two, join a group of brilliant young scientists who believe they are on the cusp of solving the world’s environmental problems and saving the planet. But will they stick to their quest and fulfil their promise to humanity, or have their heads turned by the fame and fortune offered to them by the alluring but corrupt politicians?

At stake is control of the moon and their QUEST could change the world…

London Youth Opera is the UK's only opera company exclusively staging original commissions specifically written for and performed exclusively by young people, we only ever have children and teens on our stage!

LYO has been working to broaden young people’s access to opera and realise their potential on stage for over fifty years. Originally named W11 Opera for Young People, we had humble beginnings in a small corner of West London in 1971. We were set up by music teacher Serena Hughes and the now world renowned conductor Nicholas Kraemer in response to the appalling dearth of music education in schools in Notting Hill, then one of the most deprived areas in London. Our first ever production was Benjamin Britten’s Noye's Fludde with a cast of 100 children!  The core ethos of the company is still the same and over the years our influence has spread across the capital. Our recent name change reflects the diversity of our reach: in our last opera, 17 of London’s boroughs were represented within our cast.

This year's opera The Quest will entertain both young and old so bring the whole family!
