Written by Dr Bhaskar Dasgupta

RAYS OF LIGHT is a special musical which features the works of three generations of Satyajit Ray's family, including Upendrakishore Ray, his grandfather - who, apart from being a writer, illustrator, philosopher, publisher and amateur astronomer, was also a violinist and composer, and played Indian flute and drum. Sukumar Ray ,his father - the high priest of nonsense and unreason - thrilling, unique and entertaining. His language has the universal appeal of humour and laughter – mixed with large doses of satire to poke fun at pretentious practices of the times. The maestro drew inspiration from great English writers such as Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear.
Satyajit Ray is India’s treasured feature and documentary film director who wrote the screenplay, music, lyrics, and did the casting, editing and publicity material for all his 36 productions. His first film Pather Panchali (Song of the Road) with the Apu Trilogy (1955–1959) made him a legend. With other stellar productions such as Jalsaghar (The Music Room), Charulata (1964) they occupy the pantheon of world’s greatest films.
