Tanju and Eda are trying to find a rational way to explain to their 5‑year‑old son Atlas, on the day his grandfather’s funeral is held, where his grandfather has gone. They refuse to take the easy way out by offering simple comforts; instead, they want to tell him the truth and let him come to his own conclusions, although that is not so easy. Tanju’s mother, on the other hand, wishes to describe the afterlife according to her own beliefs. When Tanju finally presents his son, he receives the saddest news he could ever hear. Before he died, his grandfather had secretly made Atlas a supporter of Galatasaray. Fanatical Fenerbahçe supporter Tanju is willing to risk everything to save his son from this excuse because, in his eyes, Galatasaray fans go to one and only one place in the afterlife. “If life is a journey, your family prepares your suitcase.” In our lives, most of the identities by which we define ourselves and for which we struggle are imprinted in our minds like a permanent tattoo by our family, our environment, and society, at an age when we are not yet capable of making our own decisions. *Fanatik* is a comedy about a family who, in their attempt to do what is best for their young children, end up in conflict with one another. If everyone pulls the child in the direction they desire, the child will either become exactly what each one wants, or the child’s fate will be left completely in their hands.
