Albania Through Byron's Eyes
Empowered Women of Diaspora, in partnership with British Albanian Youth & Culture, proudly presents a historic cultural event for the first time ever.
“Albania Through Byron’s Eyes” is a 60–90 minute ethno-musical theatre production built as an artistic dialogue between history, poetry, and cultural memory. The work presents early 19th-century Albania through the poetic perspective of Lord Byron, portraying the country as a land of strength, dignity, freedom, and deep national identity.
Inspired by Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage (Canto II), the production unfolds as a narrative journey through Byron’s Albania, where poetry, music, dance, and historical memory come together on stage. The story explores the themes Byron observed and immortalised in his writings: freedom, honour, Albanian hospitality, and the role of Albanian women as the foundation of family and national identity a portrayal marked by admiration, sensitivity, and rare respect for the time in which he wrote.
For the first time since the fall of communism in Albania, the Albanian National Folk Songs and Dances Ensemble will take to the London stage. As Albania’s highest state artistic institution in the field of musical and performing heritage, the Ensemble brings a unique celebration of the nation’s cultural identity. The role of Lord Byron will be performed by British-Kosovo author and actor Robert Wilton, supported by National Agency of Diaspora, in a powerful artistic journey through history, poetry, music, and storytelling.
This project represents far more than an artistic performance. It is a significant cultural and institutional moment for Albanian heritage in the United Kingdom a landmark event carrying genuine artistic, diplomatic, and national importance. By bringing Albania’s highest cultural institution to London, the production creates a powerful bridge between Albanian heritage and international audiences through music, poetry, theatre, and cultural storytelling.
